Biopics have always been a point of contention amongst movie goers as the argument of who does, and doesn’t, deserve a biopic always comes up. The spirit of this list is to highlight folks who have inspiring lives that should be brought to a wider stage for the world to see. (Also what I would title them for fun)

Eddie Guerrero:

As a die hard wrestling fan myself I have to admit that the American wrestling style of the late 90s/early 2000s rarely holds up… Until you get to Eddie guerrero. Eddie managed to Lie, Cheat and Steal our hearts in the WWE/WWF but I believe it’s really his journey of facing discrimination and overcoming addiction that is the real inspirational story here. Everyone knew how good he was in the ring but many do not truly appreciate the personal demons Eddie was fighting behind the scenes. Plus hearing ‘Lie, Cheat, Steal’ in a big cinema sound system would be awesome.

Working title: Lie, Cheat, Steal.

Rikidōzan:

(Yes I know he already has a movie but it’s terrible, lacks budget and inaccurate)At first glance, Sumo Wrestler turned Pro Wrestler may not be the most exciting story but Riki Dozan’s life feels like pure fiction. Rikidozan was a Korean immigrant in Japan who managed to change Japanese culture as he is credited as the one who brought Pro Wrestling to popularity in Japan. His tale of facing racism in Japan, being one of the earlier Japanese breakouts in America (even though yes he’s korean) and his now infamous rivalry with MMA legend Masahiko Kimura. Hif life came to an unfortunate end after an altercation with a yakuza (japanese gang member) in a abar went wrong. Story has it that he was stabbed with a urine soaked blade which lead to him dying of Peritonitis. However that part of the story has never been confirmed and it is also likely that his continuous drinking the following days may have played an effect.

Working title: Left in the Ring

Ella Fitzgerald:

What am I doing on New Year's eve? Hopefully finally getting to watch an Ella Fitzgerald movie. If you don’t know her name then you definitely know her music. Dream a Little Dream of Me, What are you doing New Year’s Eve? and Cry Me a River to name a few bangers. The real driving force of a Fitzgerald movie would be her personal life and childhood. The unfortunate early death of her mother, her abusive father and ex-husband are all obstacles she had to overcome and I feel it’s unfair that people choose to appreciate her career without having the knowledge to truly appreciate the many hurdles in her life that she had to overcome in order to become the legend that she is today.

Working title: Dream a Little Dream.

Akira Kurosawa:

Now I know that there are alot of movies about directors but seriously take the time to read something Like an Autobiography by Akira Kurosawa himself and you’ll very quickly realise why this man needs his own movie. I don’t think the film would be complete without Kurosawa’s thoughts soa voiceover would definitely be needed but that would only add to his observations on life. His open and raw depiction of his mother and father, the loss of his sister, how he redacted to World War 2 and how his films are STILL influential today. The man’s work set the foundation for modern cinema. That is no hyperbole. You can look at most films and TV shows and point out filmmaking techniques that originate with Kurosawa.

Working title: Something like a Biopic

Anne Bonny:

Now most people will have never heard of Anne Bonny (outside of her stint in the Netflix mockumentary The Lost Pirate Kingdom) but she’s BADASS. One of the few documented female pirates, she famously set her fathers plantation on fire at the age of 13 and then moved from Ireland to London where she discovered piracy. There’s a lot of misinformation out there about Bonny which is why I think an accurate film is needed as most of her historical records are sexist (to say the least). It’s believed that, after her arrest, she was set o be executed but never was. Some people believe she settled in Jamaica where others like to think it was Chicago. Either way it’s about time pirates came to the big screen in a more accurate way as her appearance in Netflixes mockumentary fails to do her justice.

Working title: Anney
