Who should play the beloved Spartan God?

Sony are again expanding their wide variety of gaming IPs into the movies and TV space and it was recently announced that the well beloved God of War franchise is now getting a live action TV adaptation. But who should play the main character of Kratos? This is no easy task as Kratos has become one of gaming's most well known mascots, especially the well received soft reboot God of War 2018. The role requires and actor with depth, strength and the right look. And I believe I’ve shortlisted a good list of potential candidates to play the Spartan deity.

Idris Elba:

On name value alone, Elba is a draw to any property you attach him to. But I believe he has both the look, and the range, for the job. Having recently played a father in Concrete Cowboy, Elba has more than proved his worth to play everyone’s favourite Spartan Playboy with daddy issues.

Christopher Judge:

As the famous saying goes; ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ Considering Christopher Judge was one of the biggest reasons that Kratos is a far more dynamic character now, why go to anyone else? Judge did so much more than just performance capture, he gave his heart and soul to the role. The only issue with Judge is that Sony may not feel that he will be enough of a draw to bring in that lucrative casual market to watch the show.

Dave Bautista:

Honestly my personal favourite to play the role, we have seen in Blade Runner: 2048 (short film) and in Guardians of the Galaxy, that Bautista has the capability to play both a God like warrior and a struggling father. We are so close to Dave Bautista finally getting the recognition he deserves for the acting talent that he has.

Jason Momoa:

A name I’ve seen bandied about with the discussion as to who should play Kratos is Jason Momoa. Certainly has the look and audience appeal for the role but is something of a gamble as we rarely, if ever, see him undertake roles that require some more emotional dynamism, such as that of Kratos.

Nick Offerman:

Fan favourite, Offerman certainly has the look to play Kratos but I personally struggle to see him in the role. Yes he definitely has the look now, but his background his so comedy focused, it would be nice to see some more variety in the man’s portfolio to be more sure that he is right for the role.

Tom Hardy:

I can understand why many would feel that Hardy would not be right for the role but i heavily beg to differ. His roles in Peaky Blinders, Taboo and The Dark Knight Returns show that Hardy is clearly a man who has the acting capacity to play a character who is struggling with their own masculinity in the face of stepping up.

Triple H:

The cerebral assassin and 14 time world champion is a perfect fit for the role. A father himself, his experience playing a macho, over the top male figure on TV versus his more caring role as leader of NXT is more than enough reason for HHH to take on the role. Furthermore I mean just LOOK at him, how can you not see Kratos?

So what do you think? Is there anyone I missed? Let me know @newajseyes on all socials who you think I missed. (all images are cresited within the image).
