With MGM recently losing the movie rights to the Tomb Raider franchise it has recently reinvigorated conversations as to who should take up the iconic role of everyone’s favourite double gunslinging, jungle traversing badass Brit. And I have a few ideas

Florence Pugh:
The Oscar nominated 26 year old is a personal favourite of mine as she could help straddle the line between Jolie and Vikander. The series has very heavily shifted away from the more sexualised croft in favour for a younger character design but many still yearn for the days of old. We know that Pugh certainly has the acting credibility for a newer grittier Croft who is still classically charismatic as her role as the new Black Widow in Disney+’s Hawkeye series perfectly displays why she would be a shoe-in for the role.
Emma Mackey:
Mackey has seen a meteoric rise in Hollywood. Getting her breakout in the hit Netflix series Sex Education, it was very obvious that Mackey was set for bigger things than just the show. Really showing her range between Sex Education and Death on the Nile the only thing that would be a concern for Mackey is whether or not she has the action movie training that would be needed for a new Tomb Raider film.
Emilia Clarke:
If name value is what you’re seeking then look no further than Emilia Clarke. What I loved about Vikander’s version of Croft is how empathetic she made the character. I really believe that Clarke can not only do the same, but she will also help add some more dimension to the character and an heir of legitimacy to the franchise which is still seen as flashy nonsensical action.
Daisy Ridley:
Are you really going to tell me that playing Rey Skywalker isn’t enough to qualify Ridley for the Role?
Lily James:
Lily James is arguably one of the most transformative actresses of all time. To the point where I was shocked to hear her speak with her British accent for the first time. Her roles in Baby Driver and Pam and Tommy shows that she could have balance of someone who is seemingly nice but secretly badass.
Julie Estelle:
Just, just watch her 2v1 fight scene in Netflix’s The Night Comes for Us and tell me she isn’t a perfect casting. Yes she isn’t a British actress but I do not think that should hold us back from getting a badass Lara Croft that can actually fight, shoot and act.

BONUS CASTING!:
Jonah Rock as Jonah and Michael Cain as the Winston the Butler
